JAPANDI ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE is an overarching theme in our work - the intersection of both Japanese and Scandinavian design aesthetics, which utilise minimalist design principles and organic architecture. Research shows the ‘Japandi’ aesthetics and techniques enhance people’s health and well-being by integrating warm and natural elements in biophilic design. Simple elegance, cleverly connecting with nature through timeless design that also minimises impact on the environment. 

SEEING IS BELIEVING. Breathtaking 3D visuals and interactive walk-throughs are powerful tools for not only communicating the innovative designs, but are also invaluable for streamlining the work of the project team. All designs are visualised with photo realistic exterior 3D images and interactive walk-throughs. 



ENERGY MODELING is carried out as part of our design process to confirm optimal energy efficiency and carbon footprint. This is best done early in the project process rather than later for accreditation. Energy modeling is often overlooked, but is vital in confirming that your new home will designed well for things like optimal solar gain for warmth and correct shading to avoid overheating. Correct specifications and the right systems to ensure your home stays at a desired temperature year-round with minimal ongoing running cost. High-performance glazing proportions, ventilation, shading, and the correct orientation of the house can all be optimised based on energy modeling data as well as design experience.


QUAKESTAR ratings ensure that all buildings are safe and resilience to natural hazards- especially in regions that seismically active and prone to other natural hazards and severe weather. QuakeStar uses a risk assessment system for buildings that identifies safety, the potential damage downtime and reparability. The rating leads to thoughtful design, careful specification of safe and resilient construction materials, and techniques providing longevity and peace of mind. UNIVERSAL DESIGN.
All Bob Burnett Architecture buildings incorporate principles of Universal Design, as this is essential to make the best use of space for optimal accessibility functionality, ergonomics and safety for all individuals. SUPERHOME MOVEMENT. We are active participants of the Superhome Movement - a charitable trust co-founded by Bob Burnett - to raise awareness that New Zealand’s building standards are subpar and are over two decades behind other countries when it comes to thermal efficiency, health and comfort. The aim is to provide Super Design Advice to both the public and those working in the industry to educate on how to design and build better, planet-positive and healthier homes. This is achieved through open-source sharing   of ideas, brainstorming and networking between homeowners, designers, consultants, builders, suppliers and more with events such as home tours, expos, workshops and webinars.
